Spanish Class
By: Adrian Yumul, Annabelle Regalado & Iea Jei Bansil
The benefit of having Spanish class is that we are able to communicate with more people. Since some people don’t speak English, we can use Spanish to converse with them. Already our vocabulary is growing and we can greet people and have learned the days of the week. Our teachers Señora Fong and Señora Nordman do a great job teaching us. They make learning Spanish fun and easy. At first, the idea of adding this to the curriculum made us unsure of what to expect, but after a while we have come to enjoy our once a week class. Our work so far has encompassed the Spanish language and culture. It has given us an insight to how certain holidays are celebrated. Since a majority of the class is Filipino, it isn’t too difficult as our languages are similar. We are excited to learn more as we believe that learning Spanish will be very helpful to us. That’s all for now, Adios Amigos!
Spanish Art
By: Cecilia Lopez & Andrea Trujillo
In our Spanish class, we recently learned about Día de los Muertos or The Day of the Dead. We learned about the history behind the celebration and why they celebrate their loved ones death. As a class, we admire the art that represents this holiday. We had a lot of fun learning about the decorating of skulls and later enjoyed trying to create our own. We love that instead of just learning words; art, history and culture are included in our classes. Viva Español!!
Student Council Update
By: Alana Balocating, Ian Pantoja, Abigail Devera & Eduardo Lactaoen
During the first week of school, we had an inaugural prayer service sponsored by Student Council. Despite very little practice, everyone did an amazing job! Among the many fund-raisers we plan to sponsor, our Fee Dress is one of the most popular. For a dollar, students may purchase free dress passes, hence the name “Fee” dress. We have also had our first Family Meeting and are preparing for our second meeting. We develop an agenda as well as activities for our families. You may be asking yourself, “What family?” Each 8th grader is a family leader and our families are comprised of students from each grade. This provides us the opportunity to bond and connect with one another. Some upcoming events include our Halloween family meeting, costume parade and sponsoring the November 1st All Saints Day Mass. Our year has just begun and we look forward to an activity-filled year.
Confirmation
By: Isaiah De La Rosa, Gabby Limson & Andre Reyes
On October 20, 2016, Confirmation candidates and their sponsors met in the church for an evening of reflection. This honestly was a great experience for all of us. We talked about what Confirmation is and how it leads us to become closer to God. The meeting had a lot of fun activities. We were able to learn more about the journey we have undertaken and had a chance to get to know more about each other. Remember, Confirmation is a choice to deepen our bond with God. Then we had our Enrollment Mass where we professed our desire to receive Confirmation and were presented to our parish community. We are all looking forward to receiving Confirmation. This is just the beginning of our journey!
Parish Fiesta
By: Leah Sangalang, Wilka Mendiola & Isabel Sanchez
On October 1st, Holy Angels hosted the Parish Fiesta. It contained a variety of fun and games including entertainment from the students, raffle prizes and food. This year we had a garden theme, representing different times of the day: morning, afternoon and evening. From cute flower dancers to little bugs and everything that you’d find in a garden were represented. There were even scenes acted to help bring the story together. All of these dances were choreographed by Kid Stock, the company that took over our dance program this year.
Preschool had a fun toss booth in which you could win cool prizes such as candy or little toys. There was another booth, which was our personal favorite, the photo booth. This was such a super fun way to help us save a memory. Then there was a face painting booth where some of our class volunteered for service hours. C.C.D. had a spin the wheel booth where there were no losers. Another favorite was the minute to win it with Mr. Calma. Overall, it was a really fun festival and we enjoyed the changes. It was so much fun making our last year memorable. Next year we look forward to attending as alumni!
New Lunch!
By: Alison Balingit, Ashley Cabrera & Brandon Nieu
There’s a new lunch in town and everyone is loving it. It all started the beginning of October and we were excited to learn that each day would have two choices for lunch. One entree is hot and the other is cold. For hot we have had choices like spaghetti and meatballs, cheese burger with fries, fish sticks and rice, just to name a few. The cold selection is usually a salad or sandwich. Each lunch includes a drink selection, fruit and dessert. It is nice to be able to vary our selections. It seems like more students are taking advantage of the new lunch program indicating that more people like it. Also, the ability of ordering and paying online is a plus!
Fun Run
By: Darren Pagsolingan, James Williams & Brendan Uy
40 laps! Thats way too much running for all of us. But they shrunk the laps so that everyone would be able to run all forty laps. As we started running we thought, this is way too easy, but as we kept running we discovered it wasn’t all that easy. We all finished with forty laps and were all pretty tired, but it was a great experience.
There were so many prizes that we were able to win, such as sweatbands, tattoos, hacky sack, a drone, headphones, speakers, and a blue water bottle. But the one that most of us wanted, required us to raise $1200 and that was a tablet. Everyone wanted to win a tablet and five people achieved just that.
The Fun Run was pretty exciting because the laps were really short. We all got free shirts from the company and it was pretty awesome. The Fun Run was a really fun way to support our school.
