Fifth Grade News
First Day of School

On the first day of school, we were all nervous and excited to meet our new classmates and teachers. Our teacher’s name is Sister Esther and we all enjoyed her. All of us saw all the new students in our school. We all like how our items were arranged, and how the schedule was. We were excited to be with Mr. Calma in P.E. and have a new subject, Spanish.
In the morning after Sister Esther talked about classroom rules and her expectation of us, we covered our journal book for everyday reflection on the Gospel reading. All our teachers did not give us homework on that day. After the end of our first day, we all were happy and thanked God for the new year.
Religion

In fifth grade, we have learned about the Old and the New Testament. In the Old Testament, examples are the Creation Story, Joseph and His Coat, Daniel and the Lions, David and Goliath, and more. We watched videos abut all these topics, discussed, and wrote reactions and the moral of the story. In the New Testaments, we learned about the life of Jesus and His Apostles. We have learned from Jesus and His Apostles to love one another, respect each other, be strong in our faith, and to love God with all our hearts and mind.
Reading Class

The first theme of our Reading Text is about Nature Fury. We learned about natural disasters like lighting, earthquakes, hurricanes, volcanoes, tornadoes and storms.
Studying all the kinds of natural calamities, we learned to prepare ourselves when natural disasters come. After learning the concept of each topic, Sister Esther always checks our understanding of the lesson by asking questions and by giving us a written test. Sometimes, we work in pairs in doing class work especially in Reading. Reading in fifth grade is fun and very enriching.
Computer

We learn different things in computer class. We learn the different parts of speech on BrainPop and learn how to code. We learn how to use Scratch to do different and fun coding projects. In Duolingo, we learn the different languages. What we are learning currently is coffee script coding language. We use Code Monkey. We all enjoy computer class because it is fun and educational.
Summer Vacation
Last summer, my family and I went to Hawaii. We went swimming in the morning and nighttime. We went to different restaurants to eat. The food was delicious. We also watch the sunset, and a rainbow. I had a wonderful and memorable time in Hawaii.

On my summer vacation, I stayed at my house most of the time. I went out a few times with my family to eat at the restaurant. Several times, I went shopping and watched movies like Harry Potter, Karate Kid, and Kubo. My summer vacation was filled with relaxation and fun. I can’t wait for the next summer vacation.

Last summer, I went to Disneyland and Universal Studios. It was a long drive going there but it was worthwhile. We enjoyed the sceneries along the way and had enjoyed our stay in Disneyland and Universal Studios. Toward the end of summer, my family and I went to a movie house to watch “Finding Dory. ” It was a beautiful story and taught me a lesson. Well, my summer vacation was great fun.

This year, I went to Kona, the big island of Hawaii . I snorkeled and boogie boarded there. I met friends and family members there. It was wonderful to know them. There, I bought a lot of chocolate at the Macadamia Nut Factory. I made a Hawaiian bracelet with pink turtles and yellow flowers. I also went to an NBA basketball camp. I had a great time there. My vacation was a blast!
