Spirit Week: Cultural Day

It's Spirit Week at Holy Angels School. Today is cultural day. Students wore clothes representing their culture and heritage. Second graders were asked about what they are wearing. Below are their replies:

Leo: I am wearing a  cowboy suit from my mom and dad's side.I wear it when I go to Mexico.
DJ: I'm Mexican. I'm wearing red, green and white. My mom was born in Mexico.
Omar: I am wearing a Mexico soccer T-shirt. My mom was born in Mexico.
Kaden: 
I am wearing Chinese colors. My dad is Chinese and he has been in China before.
Brooke: I'm wearing a pretty sweater from Thailand. My grandma and mom are from Thailand. My dad is American and I am half Thai and half American.
Lour: It's a Debke arabic dance outfit and under that i'm wearing a straight out of Palestine shirt. On my head i'm wearing a Palestinian headband.
Jeslyn: I am wearing a churidar. It’s pink, purple, blue, green and gold. I wear a churidar in Indian parties. My mom is from India my dad is from California.
Jonah: I am Indian and my shirt is called jobae.
Jeremy: I wore a German T-shirt with the German flag. My dad is from Germany so I am half German.
Angel: 
I am wearing African American colors. I'm half Indian but more African.
Noemi: I am wearing Guatemala and El Salvador but I was born in San Francisco.

Jake: I am wearing a Filipino basketball jersey.
Ryann: I am wearing the colors of the Philippines flag.  Yellow, red, white and blue. My mom and dad came from the Philippines. 
Isabella: I am wearing red pants and blue and white shirt. This stands for the American Flag. My family came from the Philippines.
Nathan: My shirt has Cebu. My Grandma came from Cebu.
Mandy: I am wearing Filipino colors. My mom and dad lived in the Philippines. I wished that I can go to the Philippines.

Jacob: Ako  wearing a Philippines shirt that is from Cebu. And I am wearing all the colors of the Philippine flag that is red, yellow, blue and white. My grandparents were born in Cebu and my parents were born in Manila. I like the Philippines. I was born in the Philippines. My hat is from Baguio.
Ezekiel: I 
am Filipino. I am also wearing the colors of the Filipino flag. The colors are red, blue, white and yellow. My dad was born in the Philippines, also my grandma and my other grandma and most of my other family members were born there too.
Danika: I am wearing a Philippines shirt. It is where my mom was born and my grandma too. I went there before. It is fun there!
Jordan: I am wearing a shirt that says Manila. My mom and dad are Filipino.
Serene: I am wearing American and Filipino.
Keanne: My mom is from Zamboanga and my dad is from Palawan.

Hope M. (Grade 5)

She has a good heart and willing to help her classmates with their assignments. She helps the poor using her own money. And during the festival she was observed helping during clean-up by picking up trash.

Nominees:

* Marco R (Kinder): He is always paying attention and waiting patiently during pick up of PE equipment. He is always willing to help and open to letting peers join. 
* Jenna S (Grade 1) - She always greets me “Good Morning,” and sometimes respectfully holds the small gate open for me.
* Serene B (Grade 2) - She was given too much change; $20. The following day she returned the extra $20 back to the school.
* Aaron L (Grade 4) - A student fell down during recess. When he couldn’t find the teacher on yard duty, he went and called another teacher from the classroom for help.
* Emilio R (Grade 5) - He is always trying to help a classmate with work and giving him moral support.

Benjamin C.
Benjamin is quiet, kind and does his best to be ready and focused in class. He completes his work on time and continues to improve in his academics. Most importantly, he demonstrates a good Christian attitude both inside and outside of the classroom.


Grade 5
Julia Y.
Julia is a well-behaved student who gets along well with classmates and other students. Her attitude toward schoolwork is excellent. She is cooperative and a hard worker in class. Keep up the great work!


Grade 6    
Steve G.
Steve is a unique individual who has a myriad of facts and stories to entertain his classmates and teachers. He uses his time wisely in class and has a good sense of time management. When in doubt, he always double-checks so he won’t make unnecessary mistakes.


Grade 7    
Rahul T.
This young man has been focusing on his grades. He is making an effort to participate in class discussions and submitting his work on time. He is always willing to lend a helping hand when needed.


Grade 8
Giancarlo M.
Giancarlo is a well-behaved student. He is very diligent in submitting quality work and conscientious about seeking help when needed.
