The school wide spelling bee was held on Wednesday, January 18 in the parish hall. Spellers included students from grades 5 through 8. This year’s participants were Francheska Diokno, Genesisveer Brar, Aiden Restauro, Bayleigh Rodriguez, Isabella Fernandez, Santiago Gallo, Micah Arca, and Jeremiah Parangan. This year’s group of spellers was confident, focused and well prepared. Students were strategic in asking specific questions prior to spelling given words. As a result, the spelling bee lasted 26 exciting rounds!. Seventh grade student, Isabella Fernandez, was declared the winner with her spelling of the word “chemotherapy”. Congratulations to Isabella and all the spelling bee participants!

PRESCHOOL - Jordan A
Jordan demonstrates the Student Learning Expectation of “Be Responsible Citizens” by following rules like: walking inside the building, picking up toys after play, reading books, or playing puzzles after snack time. He is trying to participate in asking and answering questions. He does seat work independently with quality. KINDERGARTEN - Gabriel M Gabriel demonstrates the Student Learning Expectation of Be Responsible Citizens by being a conscientious student so that he can reach mastery of the skills he is learning. Gabriel participates in class discussions and supports his classmates in their learning. Gabriel is helpful in the classroom and demonstrates the qualities of a good citizen. GRADE 1 - Avery C Avery is a cheerful, kind and caring student who demonstrates the Student Learning Expectation “ Be Responsible Citizens .” She is a talented student who also happens to be very shy about showing her drawing works. She is well mannered, quietly respectful, driven to do her best and sets a great example for other students. GRADE 2 - Austin C Austin is a quiet and respectful student who demonstrates the Student Learning Expectation “Be Responsible Citizens” by taking his work seriously and accepts academic challenges with eagerness that reflect on the quality of his work. GRADE 3 - Julianne T Julianne is phenomenal. There have been many times this school year where I have been blown away by her effort in and out of the classroom. From her amazing Saints Project, to her determination to understand all subjects, to sharing her musical talents with us all, and most importantly, to her grace when she or others make a mistake, she is the personification of Be Responsible Citizens. Continue to shine like the star you are, Julianne! GRADE 4 - Emma B Emma is a sweet and humble student who demonstrates the SLE, “Be Responsible Citizens," by following school rules and praying and thinking before she acts. She is also serious about her school work and cares about her classmates. She recently did a wonderful job modeling the qualities of a successful Holy Angels student during our Christmas Eve Children’s Mass by helping her brother and other students during the program. GRADE 5 - Genesisveer B Genesis works hard to complete her work on time, participates well in class discussion, always with positive attitudes, and gets along with her classmates. She demonstrates the Students Learning Expectation of “Be Responsible Citizens." GRADE 6 - Amelia V. Amelia follows directions and school rules, and asks for clarification when necessary. She is also careful when working, whether with a device or not, and keeps her work area neat. She can also be counted on to run an errand or go ask a teacher for something I may need. She really exemplifies Be(ing) a Responsible Citizen. GRADE 7 - Serene B This young person strives to Be a Responsible Citizen. In class, she is attentive and focused, and doesn’t hesitate to ask questions if needed. Her work is typically neat and complete. She strives to be an active class participant. She makes an effort to get along well with her peers. GRADE 8 - Francesca M Francesca does her very best at all times while completing her academic tasks and responsibilities with quality. She is a regular participant during class discussions, providing her insightful opinions to the topic at hand. She always has a “welcoming smile” while also greeting her teachers when she enters/leaves the classrooms. In addition, she says hello to other students while on campus, throughout the school day. Not only does she follow through as a “Responsible Citizen,” she is an excellent role model and good example, as our Student Body President, for the entire school community. The birth of Jesus signifies a new beginning for all of us. A time for renewed hope, peace, love and new beginnings. On behalf of the faculty and staff of Holy Angels School, I would like to wish you and your family a wonderful and peaceful Christmas and a New Year blessed with good health and happiness. On Monday, Dec 12, Lour Shqair received recognition from Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone and the Office of the Missionary Childhood Association as the 2021-2022, Grand Prize Winner. Her artwork will be featured on the official Christmas card of the National Director. Lour and her family traveled to Washington, DC and on Friday, December 2nd, Lour was presented with a commemorative plaque from Monsignor Kiernan Harrington, the National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies. Her artwork will be displayed at the Basilica of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC and an exhibit of all winning artwork will be setup for that day and will remain at the National Shrine through the 2022 Advent / Christmas Seasons.

Marcella is kind and caring. She tries to reach out to friends who are alone. She also has an encouraging saying, “It’s okay, you can do better next time." Marcella shows the Student Learning Expectation of “Be the Best You Can Be” by completing seat work activities with quality, and by participating actively in asking and answering questions. Kindergarten - Winter D. Winter demonstrates the Student Learning Expectation of Be the Best You Can Be by being a conscientious student so that she can reach mastery of the skills she is learning. She participates in class discussions and supports her classmates in their learning. Winter is very helpful in the classroom and demonstrates the qualities of a good citizen. Grade 1 - Erin C. Erin demonstrates the Student Learning Expectation of “Be the Best You Can Be,” by always being sweet and respectful of others. She is active in class discussions and activities. She has positive energy and a well-mannered attitude toward her classmates and teachers. She takes great pride in her work and shows her creativity during free drawing and artwork. Grade 2 - Collin R. Collin has been doing good work overall. He takes pride in doing his work neatly and correctly. He also demonstrates “Be the Best You Can Be” by showing good growth in the basic skills, and he is willing to take part in all class activities. Grade 3 - Camryn T. Camryn is very detail oriented. She keeps her work neat and precise and has a good hold on her responsibilities as a student. Camryn somehow makes all the hard classwork look easy. Her critical thinking skills are on another level. She brings up an idea or asks a question that no one’s thought of yet. Camryn’s energy in the classroom is inspiring, fun, and supportive. She is always there to lend a hand for support and laugh when her classmates are down. Well done, Camryn, and congratulations on being our 3rd Grade November SLE Award recipient. Grade 4 - Zac F. Caring, polite, helpful and studious are all the qualities describing the 4th grade student chosen for our November SLE Award. He also demonstrates “Be the Best You Can Be” by challenging himself to participate more in class, keep up his academic success, and improve his speaking and writing skills. Grade 5 - Daniel G. Daniel is a very kind and considerate student and always tries his best to complete his work on time. He knows how to use his time wisely. He also demonstrates “Be the Best You Can Be.” He loves to participate in class discussions. Grade 6 - Jenna S. Sixth Grade SLE Awardee tries her best in all she undertakes. She is an active listener and learner, and makes sure she understands the specifics of each lesson and the directions given. She uses her time wisely while at school and still has time to help out in the classroom whenever asked. She is a wonderful example of someone who tries to Be the Best She Can Be. Grade 7 - Marco G. Marco is kind, cooperative and hardworking. He is trying his best in his studies. He is focused in class and makes an effort to produce and complete quality work. Though shy in nature, he is striving to become a stronger class participant. Grade 8 - Deanna D. Deanna is a very respectful, hard-working, conscientious student who takes great pride in all her work and assignments she submits. She can always be heard using the magic words “thank you” and “please” when interacting with others. She is a regular participant during class discussions, always giving her insight and opinion about the topic at hand. She listens carefully to teachers’ directions for working on artwork. Zoey participates in class discussions and lends a helping hand to other students. Dylan B. (Kinder) demonstrates the Student Learning Expectation of Be the Best You Can Be by being a conscious student so that he can reach mastery of skills he is learning. He participates often in class discussion and supports his classmates in their learning. Dylan is very helpful in the classroom and demonstrates the qualities of a good citizen. Lucas F. (Grade 1) is always giving it his best academically. He reminds his friends to stay on task to help work as a team, as well as staying on task with his own work. He demonstrates the Student Learning Expectation of Be the Best You Can Be by being very conscious of other students' needs and always helping students around him with their work or even helping them find something. She looks out for others and works on her goals with a kind of diligence that we sometimes wish we had. Her improvement and confidence in math have grown significantly, and we are very proud of her for showing up for herself every single day. She shares her ideas through her creative spirit of writing and drawing, which helps her to meet the academic challenges of 4th grade. Marco R. He is very helpful around the classroom and always has a positive attitude towards his classmates and teachers, being a responsible citizen. Slow and steady wins the race. Natalia L. (Grade 6) works and tries so hard in all she does. She is aware of her surroundings and if something needs to be done, she will volunteer for the task. As a dedicated student, she makes the best use of her time in the classroom and tries to complete the majority of her assignments before she leaves for the day. She truly tries to “Be the Best She Can Be.” Faustina T. (Grade 7) consistently displays the qualities of the Student Learning Expectation Be the Best You Can Be. She demonstrates focus, discipline and attention to detail in all of her work. As a recently elected Student Council Technology Officer, she takes her responsibilities and duties seriously, making her a positive influence for other students. John M. (Grade 8) is a very respectful young man who gets along with all his peers and classmates. He consistently submits quality, detailed and creative work. He is focused, attentive and always ready to work. In addition, he is able to balance his academics while also taking on the responsibilities of being part of our Student Council as the Student Body Treasurer. He has shown great effort and enthusiasm in “Being the Best He Can Be” at all times. Congratulations to Lour Shqair (Grade 7) who was selected as the 2021-22 Grand Prize Winner in the Missionary Childhood Association Christmas Artwork Contest. Lour is one of two students from the Archdiocese of San Francisco awarded this recognition. Her artwork will be displayed at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington D.C though out the 2022 Advent and Christmas Seasons. Also on Friday, December 2, there will be a presentation of awards followed by a Mass and luncheon for the winners and families also held at the Basilica in Washington D.C.
In her inaugural speech on Thursday, October 6th, newly elected Student Body President, Francesca Manalastas, said, "I want to create an environment where every student can voice their concern or need." She wants to use student ideas to promote school improvement. She also advised all her schoolmates to Be the Best They Can Be and apply the other SLEs in their everyday life because the SLEs will help with their journey to success. Congratulations to the students who received the September Student Learning Expectations awards. The focus of the first trimester SLE award is "Be the Best You Can Be"
Mikaela (8) is a kind, welcoming student who is respectful of everyone she interacts with. She contributes great ideas during class discussions; in addition, she goes ahead and consistently submits all her assignments, well before the various due dates, with quality and accuracy. Not only does she excel academically, Mikaela is involved in various extra-curricular activities such as volleyball and now, Student Council, as our Student Council Vice-President. With her ability to balance academics, along with her involvement in extracurricular activities, Mikaela clearly demonstrates “Being the Best You Can Be” daily; she is a wonderful example for the entire student body to follow. Isabella (7) strongly embodies the SLE of Be the Best You Can Be. As a student, she is attentive and focused on producing complete, detailed work. Her cooperative nature and conscientious attitude do stand out in class. Participation in the school community is displayed through her participation in Student Council elections. Due to a medical recovery, Jay Joseph (6)was forced to be out of school for three weeks. During this time, he was able to complete every assignment possible and even Zoomed for his Spelling Tests. Since coming back, he has hit the ground running and is working just as hard. Clearly, he has exhibited a high level of Be the Best You Can Be. Franchescka (5) possesses the SLE of Be the Best You Can Be. She is a very conscientious hard-working student and exceeds expectations with the quality of her work. Alexa (4) demonstrates the Student Learning Expectation, Be the Best You Can Be, by showing she is focused and organized. She also demonstrates how to be a successful Holy Angels student because she cares about her classmates and accepts academic challenges with eagerness and a smile on her face. Rilynne (3) not only does her very best, but she also encourages her classmates to do their very best as well. She’s helpful, kind, and empathetic. These are qualities of a good and inspiring leader - the kind of leader Rilynne is growing into. Rilynne seems to have an understanding that the growth of each person in the class is connected, and so she inspires others to continue to put the best effort into everything they do for the benefit of the classroom community. Thank you, Rilynne for being an inspiring and kind leader! Jackson (2) is a quiet worker. He’s focused and likes to get things done. He is a good listener. He demonstrates the Student Learning Expectation of Be the Best You Can Be by trying to work to the best of his ability. Hannah (1) is very sweet and friendly. She always uses her manners and is very kind to everyone. She always has a smile on her face and gets along great with her peers. She demonstrates the Student Learning Expectation of Be the Best You Can Be by completing her work on time and she does a great job of listening to instructions. Alyana (K) is a kind and caring person to her classmates and school community. Alyana demonstrates the Student Learning Expectation of Be the Best You Can Be by trying her best when listening so she can learn the skills needed to master the standards and overcome challenges. Cataleya (PreK) is a true role model for her friends. She follows all rules, cleans up without being asked and does quality work. Cataleya has a true sense of Be the Best You Can Be when she plays with a friend who may be feeling lonely or does not have a playing partner. |
